The EIPO-NGO is pleased to announce its participation, alongside AIDA – Association of Copyright Intermediaries, as a Community Partner of The Games Forum Roma 2026, the new international forum dedicated to the cultural, educational, social and industrial dimensions of videogames and interactive media.
The first edition of The Games Forum Roma will take place on 12–13 November 2026 at Villa Mondragone in Rome, Italy, bringing together professionals, researchers, educators, cultural organisations, institutions and other stakeholders from across the international games ecosystem.
A new space for dialogue on games and society
The Games Forum Roma has been created to explore the role of videogames beyond their traditional perception as an entertainment product or purely industrial sector.
The Forum aims to examine games as a cultural, educational and social medium, while also addressing the economic and technological dynamics shaping the wider interactive media ecosystem. Its programme is designed to encourage dialogue between different disciplines, sectors and professional communities.
The event will feature plenary conversations, working sessions and curated opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Its first edition is structured around four key areas:
Public Value, focusing on the cultural, educational and social value of games;
Responsible Innovation, addressing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies through a human-centred approach;
People & Work, exploring more inclusive and sustainable careers and organisations;
Shared Action, encouraging industry, research and institutions to identify opportunities for cooperation and collective action.
Why intellectual property matters
The growth of videogames and interactive media is closely connected with the evolution of the intellectual property landscape.
Videogames bring together software, audiovisual works, music, visual arts, literary elements, characters, brands and other creative assets within complex digital environments. At the same time, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are rapidly changing the way content is created, distributed and experienced.
These developments raise important questions for the future of copyright, intellectual property protection, creative industries and digital innovation.
For EIPO, participation in The Games Forum Roma represents an opportunity to contribute to this broader European and international dialogue and to strengthen connections between the intellectual property community and the rapidly evolving games ecosystem.
Technology, creativity and intellectual property
The relationship between technology and creativity is becoming increasingly important across Europe.
Artificial intelligence, new digital production tools, interactive platforms and evolving business models are transforming the creative industries and creating both new opportunities and new challenges.
Understanding these changes requires dialogue between different stakeholders: creators, businesses, technology experts, researchers, institutions and organisations working in the field of intellectual property.
The Games Forum Roma provides a valuable setting for this exchange, particularly through its focus on responsible innovation and on what industry, research and institutions can build together.
For EIPO, this interdisciplinary perspective is particularly relevant. The protection and development of intellectual property cannot be considered separately from the technological and economic environments in which creative works are produced and used.
A European perspective on the future of interactive media
EIPO’s participation together with AIDA reflects a shared interest in encouraging greater dialogue around copyright, intellectual property and technological innovation.
The partnership also represents an opportunity to build bridges between the professional community surrounding copyright management and the broader European ecosystem of digital creativity, technology and interactive media.
This approach is consistent with the international dimension of The Games Forum Roma, which is designed to bring together perspectives from across the games ecosystem and to stimulate discussion on the future of games and digital culture.
The Forum will also host the Rome Roundtable: Women, Equality & Europe’s Digital Future, bringing together representatives from Women in Games networks and organisations to discuss equality, participation and the future of Europe’s digital and creative landscape.
EIPO and The Games Forum Roma 2026
EIPO is proud to support the first edition of The Games Forum Roma as a Community Partner and to contribute to a forum that places innovation, culture, technology and collaboration at the centre of the debate.
The event represents an important opportunity to explore how the intellectual property framework can evolve alongside new technologies and new forms of creativity, while encouraging constructive dialogue among the stakeholders shaping Europe’s digital and creative future.
